  • Sunflower (Fire)

    • While not my first attempt at growing a flower from seeds, it is by far my most successful attempt. I believe it needs a trellis as the growing pattern has been shoddily held up by clips and bread ties.

  • Striped Calathea

    • According to some plant apps, this one is considered "advanced". It has been anything but, while I admit I forgot about the plant for a week, it seems to be recovering pretty well. I will continue to monitor my mistake.

  • Polka Dot (Red/Green)

    • In my attempt to find non toxic plants to bring some variety I found 2 polka dot plants in 2 different color variations. These guys are a little finicky with how often they shed leaves but will let you know they haven't been watered properly and very dramatically. As of 8.7.26 there's an obvious bald spot in the direct middle of the plant. While the same species, soil, pot and positioning on the plant rack, it seems less hardier than the green/white variety.

  • Polka Dot (Green/White)

    • Compared to the Red/Green variety this one tends to grow faster and fuller. It has been a contender for the 8" pot but seasonally the weather has been unpredicatable and I fear its too late and will be too stressful for the plant. It does need a bigger pot sooner or later. Upon further investigation on 8.7.26 - there is a gaping hole in the back part of the plant. I suspect from lack of rotation for sunlight or the heatwave here in zone 8b. Will have to monitor this.

  • Air Plant

    • Mother's day gift to my MIL from one of her sons. She was baffled on how to take care of it so now every week this guy gets dunked into a travel mug for an hour and placed back to sway in the wind. The "pot" it has is an acrylic "jellyfish" dome. I slowly pried off the glue in hopes it survives; though I will note that despite what some apps say - it needs INDIRECT SUN or else it will dry out too quickly.

  • Tri-Color Bromeliad (Red)

    • Beautiful, but ornery, literally.
This beauty has micro thorns along each of their leaves and one of the few non toxic plants I've ever had to use gloves with to handle other than succulents. This one is in the smallest plant pot I own for no reason other than laziness. I will repot them along with others when the weather wants to behave.

  • Peperomia Jellie

    • In reality I only purchased this one because I'd spent almost an hour looking for one non-toxic plant that I could safely bring around a cat. Which is ironic because it lives outside at the moment. It isn't my favorite plant, but I'm not going to take it back. I would describe it as "ordinary".
